Leaving Cartagena towards the municipality of San Juan Nepomuceno you will visit this National Natural Park. It has the name of Los Colorados hill because of the presence of the red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus). The visitor will find a small mountain system, formed by sedimentary rocks, with other peaks such as La Cañada, El Escondido, San José, El Yayal, La Gervedera and Tamarindo de Mico. It contains one of the best preserved relicts of dry forest in the region and is an important refuge for the organisms of this habitat, such as some primate and mammal populations. It is also a feeding station for migratory birds and is considered an Important Bird Conservation Area (IBA) because more than 280 bird species have been reported. Thus, the Sanctuary and its surroundings are an ideal destination for photography, bird watching and to enjoy the natural beauty and culture of the region.
